Take a Shot Out of Life

With humble beginnings and hard work, success is limitless! This statement is a testament to Drexina Nelson’s life, a successful CEO and celebrity photographer, who takes a minute out of her busy day to give us a behind-the-scenes look into her life and journey. What’s a Normal day in the Drexina Nelson enterprise? DN: There is no such thing as a normal day. Everyday it’s anything from shooting, to projects we’re working on for clients, to events. I mean there’s no typical day. I guess the bottom line to all of it is getting everything done and accomplishing our task. What’s an area you’ve tapped in to that not most photographers have? DN: Well I have my own production company, D.N.P. and though I am an artist, I have a business background as well.  One thing I see in a lot of photographers, or creators in general, is the lack of a business background. Even though there are have videographers and photographers, we put together at team for production. So not only am I a photographer, bu

Beyonce & Jay Z raise $4 million for President Obama

Photo courtesy of Obama for America When I received an email the other day for the Presidential Fundraiser in NYC, I was super excited! The fact that my favorite industry couple, Jay Z & Beyonce, are going above and beyond their civic duty is even more impressive! The President Obama Fundraiser was held at none other than Jay Z's 40/40 Club on Tuesday, September 18th. Guest paid an astonishing $40,000 per ticket to attend the event...hopefully this included a photo op with Mr. Obama himself!  Now, we wouldn't be a fashion blog if we didn't discuss how regal the power couple looked at the event that raised $4 million for the presidential campaign. Jay Z wore a black tailored suit and a crisp white button up. Beyonce definitely stole the show in her fitted red dress and cascading golden locks that gave off a feel of old Hollywood glam.  As Beyonce said on Tuesday night, "we believe in his vision!" I intend on heading to the polls to fulfill my civic duty on Tues

Trend Alert Tuesday: Pretty in Peplum

I am completely in love with the Peplum trend! It's definitely flattering on all figures...it accentuates, conceals, and contours...I wish all clothing could do this! Even though this trend has been around for a while, I have a feeling that it's not going anywhere! Several designers even incorporated the trend in their collections presented in Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. #TBT Fashion: 1930's Fashion

While the 1920's served as an era for the more independent lady...the 1930's was the return of the lady! Women dressed more feminine and glamourous, but you could still distinguish the economic status. Thank goodness for Wallace Carothers who invented and began mass producing nylon in 1938...if it weren't for him, we would all have saggy granny stockings. During this decade, fashion also experienced a drastic change due to Wall Street crashing in 1929. Designers began experimenting with cheaper fabrics and utilizing the zipper versus the button.  Women Although Coco Chanel is probably the most influential designer of this time, French designer Madeleine Vionnet became extremely popular for her "cross cut bias" dresses.  Softer and prettier hairstyles adorned w/ plate hats Metalic lame was worn for evening glamour w/ sequins & beading Skirts were longer in longer in the back than in the front "1930's Trousseau" dress: long free flowing dress w/ lo

Sunshine Anderson & Anthony "Q" in Atlanta

Grammy-nominated R&B singer Sunshine Anderson hosted an intimate Tweet & Greet event with special guest Anthony “Q” Friday night at Aurum Lounge in Atlanta. Guests were treated to an open bar courtesy of Espada Tequila and also enjoyed miniature cupcakes prepared by Simply Delicious Cake. According to Anderson, “ Q and I are going to prove that R&B is back.” Anthony “Q” set the tone for the evening with an a capella rendition of his R&B ballad, “Medicine,” from his Guitar Her mixtape. He also debuted his new song, “Money Bags,” which is the first single from his upcoming solo album. Before performing, Anderson discussed a few upcoming projects, including a possible reality show. Performing a snippet of her new single, “You’re Not Mine,” she reminded the crowd of the rich quality in her voice. Anderson closed out the performance with her female anthem, “Heard It All Before,” which brought the crowd to their feet.     Anthony "Q" performing "Mo
