Met Gala Moments...The Glamour, the Gawdy, and the Grotesque

While most of the country was enjoying a tasty margarita or two for Cinco de Mayo, the who's who in entertainment and fashion graced the red carpet at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York last night for the "Oscars of Fashion." The Met Gala marks the opening of the Costume Institute's fashion exhibition...this year's theme was a tribute to designer Charles James. The color(s) of the evening seemed to be my favorite...Black and White, but there were definitely some AWE and AWFUL moments! Check out some of the fabulous photos and my thoughts below:

THE GLAMOUR
- Of course Beyonce looked fabulous in this Givenchy gown...serving a little goth couture!
- Rihanna looked gorgeous in this white Stella McCartney look. She's the only one that can make a crop top = couture.
- Charlize Theron looks stunning in Dior!
- LaLa added a pop of color to the carpet in Cushnie et Ochs and killed it...unfortunately I can't say the same for Carmelo!
- Sarah Jessica Parker is back and set the carpet off right in this Oscar de La Renta gown.

THE GAWDY
- We know that the world loves Ms. Lupita Nyong'o, but I think this look is a little much. She looks like a Native American flapper in this Prada get up.
- Rita Ora is giving my Tangled ballerina in Donna Karan Atelier.

THE GROTESQUE
I'm not even sure what to say about Gabrielle Union and Solange! I love them, but these looks did nothing for their figures. Gabby looks like she did her own makeup for the carpet!

Tribute to Maya Angelou, The Phenomenal Woman

Today we said goodbye to one of the greatest orators of all time! Dr. Maya Angelou has served as an inspiration to millions through her words, actions, and commitment to civil rights. She was a living legend and her influence on our culture is priceless. Most noted for her poems, "Phenomenal Woman" and "Still I Rise," she instilled a sense of pride in women everywhere. In addition to these noted works, Maya Angelou has set the standard by being: - San Francisco's 1st African American female cable car conductor - 1st African American Woman to have her screenplay turned to film, Georgia I remember the first time I was introduced to Dr. Angelou's story in 4th grade. I'm not sure if I was suppose to be reading it, but my older sister had "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings" laying around. All I could say was WOW! How could a girl just a few years older than me go through so much. From that point, I began to appreciate life and all that God ha...

Event of the Month: Mimi Faust hosts BE Magazine No Wire Hangers Fashion Show

[VIDEO RECAP] Special thanks to Nikki Walker PR for inviting msBOMB.com out to the No Wire Hangers Trios Fashion Show in Atlanta earlier this month. I have been to my share of Atlanta fashion shows, but the BE Magazine staff did a phenomenal job with the selection of everyone from the designers to the models and the performers. Mimi Faust of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta served as the MC for the evening and brought along a few of her fellow cast mates to partake in the evening. Although Mr. “Steebie” J stayed just long enough to show Mimi a little love and land a hug, “Prince” Scrappy stood along the sidelines to watch his daughter Imani and beau Erica grace the runway in pieces by Women’s Wear designer AVNAH. DJ Kelo kept the audience entertained, but when Ms. Vina Mills stepped on that stage to perform her new single, “Love Em Good,” the crowd was definitely amped up. I love any event that combines my two loves: fashion and philanthropy, so I was proud to see that 40 Girls and Som...
