A Bite Out of Diabetes

Over 26 million people are affected by diabetes in the U.S. alone and with obesity trending at an all-time high the CDC projects that another 79 million are at risk. Diabetes, as with most diseases, is completely preventable and unbeknownst to many of those affected by the disease, it is completely reversible.

Diabetes is caused when high levels of glucose are in the blood and the pancreas cannot sufficiently produce enough insulin, a hormone that helps the body absorb the glucose and use it for energy. This explains why diabetes patients may feel fatigued and suffer from obesity and other ailments such as heart disease and high blood pressure because essentially, their body is not digesting food nutrients properly.

Diabetes can be hereditary, "but as the saying goes, genes load the gun and lifestyle pulls the trigger". The magic in this statement is that the Power is in our Hands, or better yet, our grocery cart. Instead of the usual oh so tantalizing yet unhealthy snacks, add these 10 power foods that can give your body the boost it needs to stabilize your metabolic functions. As the saying pointed out lifestyle is everything. This month and beyond let's face Diabetes with the understanding that Decisions and Discipline are dire to our health and the sweet side of life is still just a nibble away.
